HENDRIX’S MONTEREY GUITAR READY FOR AUCTION

A private collector in the UK is parting with the Fender Stratocaster in time for the 50th anniversary of Monterey, the festival credited as one of the beginnings of the ‘Summer of Love’.

The guitar reportedly features scratches from Hendrix’s belt and is still stringed to accommodate left-handed playing. It also remains intact and is not burned as it was swapped out prior to Hendrix and the Experience’s performance of ‘Wild Thing’ which saw Hendrix set his new guitar on fire (a sufficiently burned version which sold at auction in 2012).

The guitar is expected to sell for $750,000 when it goes to auction in Beverly Hills on Saturday June 17.
