‘Pure Comedy’ was uploaded to his YouTube account overnight and is a blistering yet beautiful piano-led pop song, in which Misty’s typical sarcasm is met with a straight-faced belief that we can do better.
The video is a mixture of found footage and animation, detailing the lyrics, which decry the greed, piousness and fear of the American right wing that has led to the ascendancy of Trump. ‘Their idea of being free is a prison of beliefs,’ sings Misty, before coming to the sad yet somehow quietly optimistic conclusion that ‘I hate to say it, but each other’s all we’ve got.’
